Hermano, I completely agree. However, did you just try to put government + planning + future in the same sentence?! LOL-sarcasm. From a business/advertising standpoint they (companies) get Long Island reach in their media buys whenever they buy television, newspapers, and radio (well for newspapers and radio, mostly part of Nassau). Supposedly, all of L.I. is part of the Metro NYC Demographic Area. For actual retail/event promotions it is separate b/c of the distribution routes and it makes sense logistically.
Your argument makes sense, but it will never change, unfortunately, in my opinion. If it does, remind me, I'll buy a night's worth of coqui! ;O) Keep up the honest fight, we need more G. Vazquez's!
Hey Gerry, thanks for sharing that blogpost! It is great. Yes, I figured that you were including Kings & Queens b/c I know Long Island very well having worked some projects in Suffolk county years ago, one of them for a money-transmitting company.
The problem with your statement is that nobody in advertising/marketing looks at Long Island in that view. Most people do not look at Long Island that way. I agree with your post completely, but Long Island is always broken up, in my estimation, due to the dense populations of Kings and Queens, as well as the fact that Long Island, as a whole, is much more vast in space and residential, making it a natural cut-off for companies' distribution routes and you know, all advertising/marketing is tied to geographical sales/distribution routes..

What's up, Gerry? Hope all is well in L.I. I just followed you through my Blogger dashboard and also on Twitter. Great blog. I don't agree w/ that 1.5MM Long Island number, but it's all good. I am in NJ, originally from Jackson Heights. Un saludo.....
